Well we are nearly at the end. The World cup is almost over for another lifetime.
The quality has been poor, but the excitement high. It strangely seems to have mirrored the English Premier League (or the EPL for you Americans).
We are down to the last two teams, for the chance to be the Champions of the Earth. You have to say Germany are favorites given their demolition of Brazil. Argentina are probably worthy of a finals spot, Colombia might feel a little sore, but it is a fair final.
Only Messi can save Argentina, and if he does he will have cemented his place in history as one of the top 3 players every to play the game, along with Pele and Maradona. Whether he is the best or not will only be known when he retires. But the win will take him above the likes of Cruyff and Ronaldo (big and little).
Let the battle commence and……..
“Los geht’s Deutschland, kämpfen und siegen!”
I haven’t posted about the WC yet, so I thought I would correct that.
What a fantastic celebration of sport and cultural identity. The Olympics is great, but the actual events don’t matter so much as the collective completion, but the World Cup is different. It is this planets sport, and there is but one winner. The champion of the Earth’s favourites sport. The champion of the Earth. Now that is so cooooool.
Who do I fancy, I hear you cry. Well, I have the benefit of watching the first few games, and so I will not be picking Spain or England this time around. Holland are looking good, Brazil could do it unless they get very strong referees, Belgium don’t have enough collective experience, Chile have been fantastic, but their high pressure game will eventually run out of steam. I fancy Argentina, assuming Messi stays fit and continues his progress. And I fancy Germany, because they have the most complete team back to front.
Bring on the next matches. Let us see who will conquer the Earth!
I have to apologise to England and Spain for supporting them. The fact they were 2 of the first teams out of the WC is probably a coincidence, but I still feel bad.
But to be fair, given the football they played, WC about sums it up!
Not sure where I should go now. I feel bad for the hosts if I continue to support them, but they will always have a chance given the refereeing.
Germany are looking good, Holland can beat everybody, including themselves and Argentina have Messi, who if he plays as he can could win the WC on his own.
I am gong to leave it after the group stage to make a call…… because as Polar Bears go I am a chicken (with more fur).
